Dmitry Muratov

Dimity Muratov is the editor-in-chief of the Moscow-based daily Novaya Gazeta. After graduating from the philology department of Samara State University in 1983, he worked for the newspaper Volzhskiy Komsomolets, then served in the army from 1984-86. In 1987, he joined Komsomolskaya Pravda in Moscow, where he served as department editor and as a member of the editorial board. In 1993, he and several other journalists left Komsomolskaya Pravda to launch Novaya Gazeta, which quickly became known for it critical and investigative coverage of Russian political and social affairs. He has been its editor-in-chief since 1995.
